SARAH SIMMONS

Like all of the kids in AFL, Sarah Simmons is a hero. Sarah visits the hospital every week for blood work or chemotherapy, but talking with her you would never know the battles this child endures. In her sixth year in life, she has undergone surgery and months of treatments for a brain tumor.

Despite her physical struggles, Sarah is absolutely full of energy for life. During her hospital and clinic visits, she loves to talk with anyone and everyone. She often stops doctors and nurses in the hallway to tell them about a new friend or discovery she’s made and to show them her artwork.
Making art has gotten Sarah through some tough and long treatments. She walks into the pediatric oncology clinic each week and makes a beeline straight to the art station and to Annie Rogers.

Painting is Sarah’s forte, and she loves to mix acrylics in bright shades of pink, orange, and yellow. She finds painting even more fun if she can add a little gold, glitter, or silver to her creation. She likes for her work to shine.
After focusing so well during her art lessons, Sarah has also become adept at blending watercolors in a natural and realistic manner. She has painted on nearly every surface Arts For Life offers her: glass bottles, wooden boxes, masonite panels, cardboard, egg cartoons, tee shirts, paper, and canvas.

In the year since her first visit, Sarah has become a permanent fixture in Arts For Life. She fills the AFL bulletin board with her crazy creatures, beautiful layered paintings, and one-of-a-kind collages. Sarah brings great laughter, hardy imagination, and true inspiration to everyone she meets.
