INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
- AFL offers internships to college students, recent graduates, and community members across North Carolina. There are four AFL chapters: Asheville, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Durham.
- AFL staff train interns to teach visual arts, music and creative writing to pediatric patients and their siblings.
- Interns gain skills in teaching the arts, working in hospital settings, and mentoring patients with serious illnesses.
INTERNSHIP REPONSIBLILITIES
- Commit to a minimum of nine months working in hospital inpatient units and hospital outpatient clinics
- Teach arts four to twelve hours per week
- Prepare and execute ten art lessons for pediatric patients
- Organize displays of patients’ art work
- Make art kits for patients
- Record day to day teaching experiences
- Keep detailed records on all patients
